
Tras larguísimas deliberaciones los principales actores del mercado de telefonía móvil llegaron a un acuerdo para desarrollar un cargador universal. La propuesta partió de la Comisión Europea con el objetivo de beneficiar a los usuarios y reducir la contaminación ambiental.
El Memorándum de Acuerdo (MoU, por sus siglas en inglés) fue firmado por Apple, Nokia, Sony Ericcson y Mortorolam entre otros. El puerto elegido para el cargador en el microUSB que, en principio, será obligatorio para los modelos capaces de enviar y recibir datos (además de voz, obviamente).
Si bien quedan afuera, aparatos más complejos con cámara o los llamados Smartphone, se dice que la medida abarca al 90% de los aparatos en circulación dentro del viejo continente.
Muchas empresas se mostraron reticentes a sumarse a la iniciativa, ya que el cargador universal le daría más libertad al usuario para cambiarse de marca. Además, reduciría la contaminación del planeta ya que no se debería tirar el cargador anterior al comprar un nuevo aparato.
El nuevo protocolo estándar debería entrar en funcionamiento a partir de 2010.
